So Close, Yet So Far
It's just about 10:00am. That means our mini-vacation/four day weekend/Rush Road Trip 2011 starts in about 7.5 hours.

A Few Things
My beloved wife Jen and I went out on a date to celebrate our 4th first-date-iversary last night. We just went out to dinner and then hung out at home. It was a really good night, spent celebrating a really good night. We've come pretty far in four years. I wouldn't change a thing. I love you, sweetie.

Two years in a row.
I did a free yahoo fantasy hockey team. For the second year in a row I went to the finals and lost due to bullshit.
Last year during the finals I was ahead by a couple of points at the end of the week. That's when I discovered that the finals for some reason ran for two weeks, unlike every other match up during the entire year. I lost my lead during the second week.
This year I made it to the finals again and was happy to see that the match up was only one week, but at the end of that week the score was tied and I lost due to the tie breaker.
Two years in a row I went into the playoffs as the top seed, and two years in a row I lost in the finals due to bullshit.
I blame Sidney Crosby. If he could have just sucked it up and played through his debilitating post-concussion syndrome I definitely would have won. (You, kind readers, know sarcasm when you see it, don't you?)

A New One
I just saw something I've never seen before.
You know how when you get into an elevator generally speaking everyone faces the same direction? You get into the elevator and you face the doors, right? Sometimes you lean against the side wall and sort of face sideways, but for the most part everyone faces the doors.
This morning I was in an elevator and the last person in stood leaning against the doors facing the back. There were four people facing the doors, and one person standing in front of the doors facing the opposite direction.
Damn... it was disturbing. It was a really uncomfortable elevator ride. If you ever feel the need to face the back of the elevator, don't do it. It'll totally freak everyone else out. Follow proper lift etiquette. Please.
In other news, the Bruins blew a 3-0 lead last night.
hmmmm... deja-vu? Half way through the second period they were up 3-0 on the Rangers. With about 5 minutes left in the third they were still up 3-2. The Rangers won the game 5-3.
The general consensus around here is that if the Bruins don't at least make it to the Conference Finals this year then the season is a failure. I am fully in agreement with that statement.
However, I have no confidence in them. They have been playing well against good teams, but with the exception of the glorious victory over Montreal, they have been crapping out against the teams beneath them in the East. They very well could face the Rangers in the first round. Given the last two times they've faced New York it would not surprise me at all if the B's went down. Same with Montreal. Yes they have had two fantastic wins against the Canadiens (7-0 and 8-6 with thousands of fights) but for the most part this year Montreal has beaten us easily.
3rd round or bust... but I'm not feeling good about them at all.

Mom Update
My mother had an MRI yesterday. Today she got the results. The tumor is still shrinking. Her doctors expect that one more cycle of chemo should eliminate what's left of it. She's being admitted today to start the next cycle.

Summer: Ruined
Yes, the Red Sox were picked to win the World Series by everyone and their uncle. A seemingly endless stream of media sports experts are saying they are going to win over 100 games this year. It's all over but the celebrating. Even the Boston Herald has announced that this is the greatest Red Sox team ever (before they even played a single game).
Have we learned nothing from the idiocy known as the Miami Heat?
The Sox were destroyed by the Rangers this weekend. We are 0 and 3 to start the season. Our best pitchers looked pathetic. It was painful. I believe the pitching staff gave up 263527 home runs this weekend. Red Sox fans across New England are in full on panic mode. It's a disaster of biblical proportions (rumor has it the Charles river is running red this morning. I can't confirm that though).
People. Calm down. First of all, the Red Sox are not a lock to win the East, the American League, or the World Series. They should be in the hunt all season, and they have a really good chance to win big... but a lock? No. Calm down. Oh, and Boston Herald? You oughta be ashamed of yourselves. Best Red Sox team ever? Why not just put a banner headline on the front page: Herald Sports Staff are Nitwits. It amounts to the same thing. Calm down.
Fans. It's three games. Calm down. More than that, it's three games against the team that won the American League last year. You didn't expect the Rangers to roll over and die, did you? There are still 159 games left. Calm down.

We were out in the yard playing catch and we heard a loud crack in the woods.

Today the kids and I played three way catch, and we tested out the new bikes. The seats and handle bars have been adjusted, and my left hand stings from my step-daughter's fastballs.

The Red Sox 2011 season is underway!
Of course they are down by one in the eighth inning. Lester gave up three home runs, but Gonzalez has three RBI.
They are back, and unlike last season 90% of the starting line up is not on the disabled list.

It's All My Fault
I try not to get risqué on this page. Members of my family read this. I don't want to put anything that will make them think that I am anything other than the sweetest, nicest, most polite guy there is. (Everyone is fooled, I can feel it)
