The Fellowship of the Miserable

Sports.

Agony.

The Red Sox have won two games in a row for the first time this season, bringing their record up to 4-10, the worst record in the major leagues. But still, two in a row against Toronto is a huge step in the right direction. I was going to write something about how things have turned around and how Patriots Day will see them winning their third in a row.

Then I realized that Daisuke Matsuzaka is the starting pitcher today. 4-11 it is!

Then there is the Bruins. The Bruins were awful in game one of their first round playoff against Montreal. I thought that if anything would wake them up to the reality of their situation, the humiliation of that first game would do it. Then they played game two and were only marginally better. Humiliation again. Now we get to go to Montreal for games three and four. Given what we've seen in the first two games I expect the humiliation to end after game four. I want to make a comparison between the Bruins play of late and a low cost prostitute visiting a fraternity party... but this is a family show.

As for today's Boston Marathon? Best of luck to all of those running. May you all finish with personal record times and a minimum of injuries. But as for my personal feelings toward marathons I am reminded of some insightful words spoken by a very wise man(*): "Why run when not chased?"
