While driving home from Florida we passed through Washington DC. We tried to get close to the White House so the kids could get out of the car and we could get a good look, but there were road closures all over the place and we kept getting rerouted or I kept giving Jen wrong directions. Eventually we just said screw it and got lost trying to get back to the highway. Jen is a much better navigator than I am. We didn't see the White House, but we did see the US Capital building, and the Supreme Court building, and the Library of Congress, and the Washington Monument, and one little tiny corner of the Lincoln Memorial.
Later that day we drove up route 95 in New Jersey and we could see some of the Manhattan skyline. We got a good look at the Empire State Building from across the Hudson.
Summer vacation starts for the kids in another week or so. Jen and I both have a good dose of vacation time available even after using up a week to go to Florida.
Maybe this year we should take advantage of both of those facts. Maybe this year we should do some traveling. Maybe some day trips. Maybe some long weekend trips. Maybe go back to New York. Maybe go back to Washington. Maybe head up to the White Mountains. Maybe find some things to see. Maybe find some fun things to do.
Maybe this is the year we do it.
Maybe the planning is already well under way.
There is a song that goes, "I like New York in June, how about you?" I answer that line with, I like it in July too.
More info to come...
