The worst part of the holidays is probably the financial aspect. Savings accounts tend to take a nasty hit between Thanksgiving and the start of the New Year.
The second most painful aspect is probably the downer that comes after the season is over. I'm talking specifically about work. We had two days off for Thanksgiving, then a few full weeks, then a short week for Christmas followed immediately by a short week for New Year.
After that? Slam! Back to reality. Last week was a full five day week and it took forever. To make things worse, it was followed by a standard two day weekend which, coming on the heels of two consecutive three day weekends, was very short.
We made the most of it though. The Mrs and I went out for a much needed date night on Friday. We cleared our heads a little and just enjoyed being with each other. We had so much fun we did it again on Saturday. Sunday became a textbook flake day as we slept late, then sat on the couch all day watching movies, and then went to bed early. It was perfect... or as close to perfect as you can get without that magical third day being added in. I have Dr Martin Luther King day off on Monday but Jen doesn't so it'll be a bit of a bust. We're still hypothetically planning to hypothetical go away for a weekend next month. As with every February I also am considering a few extra vacation days for RPM Challenge reasons. We'll see.
I could have really used a three day weekend this week too.
Despite the two day restriction though, it was the best weekend Jen and I have had together in a while. Possibly since the honeymoon. It was a great weekend.
