Jen and I visited the Apple store in Salem, NH last night. We checked out the showroom models of the new MacBook Pro with the Retina Display (that's a long name for a computer, isn't it).
The display is nice. It's definitely clearer than any other MacBook, or any iMac model. But is it that much clearer? Is it enough to justify the cost?
I don't think it's quite that much better. The difference between the images on an iPhone 3GS (without retina) and an iPhone 4 (with retina) was pretty huge. The same with the iPad 2 and the New iPad, which we also took our first real look at last night. It's a night and day difference.
On the new MacBook Pro it was not a night and day difference. You can see the difference, mostly when looking at the desktop or launch pad, but it didn't blow you away like it did on the iPhone or iPad.
We are both thinking that it might be a good idea to hold off on lusting after the new MacBook Pro for a while. Let's see how non-Apple applications handle it for a while before thinking about taking the plunge.
So it's back to lusting after iMacs again! Heh heh heh.
